SAG besties!

the color keeps on splashin' on the red carpets this season.   second to the Oscars, my heart goes to the SAG awards.  they feel more legit from an actor's standpoint, and i honestly feel like all the ladies kick it up a notch in how they dress.  like a full dress rehearsal for the Oscar red carpet, if you will...

the ladies who ruled the carpet like queens?  in no particular order, just rolling out of my head as they come -

Tina Fey nailed it in Oscar de la Renta.  i love this funny lady.  she had me at Mean Girls.  somehow (perhaps you need a consistent stylist Tina?  i am so here for you...) she is a bit hit or miss on the carpets.  (obvs not in the acting that gets her there, because lady is on a LOT of red carpets!)  this one - HIT.  she looks crackin.

Sofia Vergera...sigh.  my GOD this woman is beautiful.  it's almost too much.  it's almost absurd. add to it that she is absolutely hilarious, and it pretty much just blows your mind. so what's a woman like that to do?  pour herself  into this gorge cobalt Roberto Cavalli dress and go and explode hearts and minds.  that's all.  just another day at the (not)office....

Natalie Portman is one of the prettier human beings on the planet.  add to it that she has the lovely glow of carrying a wee one, being in love,  and oh yes...the fact that she is blasting away all competition this award season...  not a whole lot of pomp and circumstance needed.  a simple but perfectly embellished Azzaro column dress will do the trick.

lastly but never ever leastly.    my current major girl crush - Mila Kunis.  love her, love the Alexander McQueen dress.  love the simple but absolutely perfect in every way hair and make up.  apparently all i have to say about this is "LOVE".  so there it is.

next stop - Oscars -- woot woooot!

yep still here in la-la land.  i love it here.  and i LOVE this Alexander McQueen get-up.  the blazer is drop dead gorge - but it's the jaquard leggings that put me over the edge.  silk and merino wool perfection.  i mean come on - i could even wear them with the Louboutin boots!!  fantasy friday.  loves it.

non fiction

several facts for this sunny morning.

one - i am extremely excited to see the new Robin Hood movie.  as you may have gathered, i'm wildly obsessed with British history and all the myths and stories that go along with it.
two - Cate Blanchett is in the movie, and as you also may have gathered, i am obsessed with her.  the most perfect Maid Marion humanly possible.
three - my head is spinning at how AMAZING these custom made Roger Vivier boots are.  they were created for her, with her input, to wear in the film to go mucking through the forest and be a bad-ass superwoman and look fantastic at the same time. (precisely the reason i love her so)  the boots are beyond perfect - i would gladly sling some arrows to get my hands on them.

final farewell

Alexander McQueen's final collection was shown in Paris... and it is a little bit mind blowing.  it makes his loss even more shattering when you see the staggering genius of these pieces.  no one makes clothes like this any more.  i feel like i'm seeing clothing that were made for Queen Elizabeth 500 years ago...with a modern twist of course.  the detail and intricacies just take my breath away.  it's so incredibly sad that there was so much pain inside a soul that contained so much beauty.  such a bittersweet goodbye note.

dear Sandra...

you looked smashing in Alexander McQueen at the SAG awards.  and you won.  i'm rootin' for you to win the Oscar because, quite frankly, i adore you and you deserve it.  in light of the recent loss of Sir McQueen, how lovely would it be to rock his frock at the awards?  

just a thought...  perhaps one of these numbers here.  unless you have a custom design up your sleeve that you have not yet told us about...

at the start of NY Fashion Week came the sad news that Alexander McQueen had ended his own life. this is always a terribly sad and shocking thing, obviously, but there is a weird eery depth to it when it is someone who is an artistic talent. it's like it leaves a gaping void in the landscape of beautiful things that can happen in the future.

as a Brit, there's not much that is more fantastic than being recognized by the Queen. it pretty much sums up your brilliance in your field, a big time "enough said", "say no more" cap on how amazing you are. Alexander McQueen had that honor, made a Commander of the British Empire for his contributions to fashion. he was a designer above and beyond. couture shows are art normally. his shows went to a whole different level - they were full on theatrical presentations. to say he was a creative genius somehow feels like an understatement. love it or hate it (some of them were so shocking it was hard to love) you felt awe at the presentations for the sheer impact of the intense artistic presence. he was costuming the world for the show playing in his mind.

his ready-to-wear clothes and accessories are also amazing, gorge, and utterly lust worthy. they feel like London to me - and i love that. he never designed to sell - he designed what he felt and where he came from. that is artistic creation in a nutshell.

hopefully he is at peace now - back here on earth, he will be missed.

SAG-tastic

ok - it seems the ladies did indeed step it up a notch from the Golden Globes to this past weekend's SAG awards. all hope is not lost for Hollywood glamour. maybe it helped that the sun was shining - lord knows that makes me dress a hell of a lot better.

there were quite a bevvy of beauties on the carpet rouge. the choice few were very unique and fit the personality of the lady upon which it was draped - this we like. very much...

Diane Kruger, lovely lady friend of Pacey (oops sorry - Josh Jackson). seriously working the old school Hollywood vibe in Jason Wu. i love the dress, it's perfection. i'm not 100% sold on the color - but she makes it work.

Toni Collette in Rafael Cennamo looked AMAZING. i am obsessed with this dress and i want it. i have absolutely no place to go wearing it - but i LOVE it.

Kyra Sedgewick looked fab in Vera Wang. she always looks good - but this is the first time she has ever been on my list of faves. the whole thing, from hair/makeup to dress was SO simple but absolutely beautiful. also she's my neighbor so i like to support the hood, you know?

Lea Michele from Glee - sigh. i am not one of the people obsessed with Glee. i'm not hatin' on it - i just honestly don't understand the appeal. but that is neither here nor there, as this is about style. and thusly - i'm givin props to this pretty girl in a pretty dress by Catherine Malandrino. she looked like a dark cream puff at the Globes - and i'm glad someone stepped in and got her to show off her body. not only is the dress gorgeous - but the color is AMAzing. love.

ok...i'm not 100% sure if i like this Alexander McQueen dress... part of me does - i love the shock of blue on black, but i'm just not totally there... but since it is Sandra Bullock, and since i have loved her with all my heart since Miss Congeniality, i am going to give it to her.

Helen Mirren is on my list mainly because i want to be her when i grow up. she is a mind bendingly good actress, so good that it hurts. and add to that - she is FLINGIN FLANGIN GORGEOUS. forget all the little 22 year old ingenues - this woman is amazing. and to top it off - check out the earrings - two big pearl drops of different color. she makes me feel faint she's so fantastic.

i've now worked myself into a dither so i must stop... god these award shows are exhausting!
