meanwhile....

back in the upper half of the city on FNO...  crowds stills millin' and stylin' - shopping and partying like it's going out of style.  lines to get into celeb-attending venues were, in a word, a CLUSTER-SHAG.  but the events were fun and silly and perfect.  karaoke at Bergdorfs with Nicole Richie?  you can't go too wrong.   at the end of the evening my final call is that FNO was well worth the mayhem, and can also stand for Fabulously Nuts Ordeal.  and so we wait for 2011...

cuteness interlude

i am involved in a steamy love affair with my leopard print sandals at the moment - so perhaps i am drawn to all things of this nature...  you can wear the print with almost anything (jeans,army green, red and gold being my current roster).  and it's a documented fact i think Nicole Richie is adorable.  as Forrest Gump would say "and that's about all i have to say about that"

about 3.2 seconds after the whirlwind tour of fashion emporium type dept. stores to promote the new spring line of Winter Kate, the fabulous Mz. Richie now has previews coming out for the fall collection.  it's a little darker (thematically as well as color-wise) than the gorgeous, ethereal hippie-chic spring stuff. and it's equally gorge. she says her inspiration was the movie "From Hell" (starring Johnny Depp and about Jack the Ripper - it's a win win hot/weird sitcho)   i'm a bit in love with the red dress.  and the white cape rocks my little world a bit too - i'm imagining quite the fantastic night out in that little number... and the peacock jacket?  amazers.  with a pair of jeans, a silk tee and some heels?  good to go.

these days everyone and their sister who gets 13 minutes of fame spews out a "celebrity clothing line".  most of them are absolute rubbish, and last about as long as the "celebrity's" "fame".  once again Nicole Richie seems to be setting herself apart from the pack, with the second consecutive collection that is unique and wearable.

we all know i love me some Nicole Richie. she's just adorable. game, set, match.

i'm always equal parts intrigued and dubious when celebs do their own clothing lines. 99 percent of the time i look at in sort of sick fascination with the thought in the back of my mind "who in the name of all things holy would want to pay money to dress in the style of that person?!" i won't name names. rather than use their names, the lines could just be called "dress like a whore, just like me!" and the point would be the same. (Kate Moss is outside that heinous bubble. i like a number of her pieces for Topshop.)

ahem, anyway... now the talented Miss Richie enters the fashion fray. she started off with the House of Harlow jewelry line - which is uber cute (that reminds me, there's another ring i want...) and she expanded, logically, while preggy, to a maternity line for Pea in the Pod. again - super cute pieces. cut to spring 2010, when her new label Winter Kate will debut. (February to be exact)

the line will include 37 pieces, and will be sold at shops like Nordstrom, Neimans, Saks, Bloomingdales, and boutique-ier shops such as Ron Herman, Intermix and Kitson. the collection includes mostly tops, vests and bed jackets in colorful splashes of vintage-inspired silk, crepe and chiffon, based heavily on the style of her own wardrobe. as she puts it, "I probably wear the same two pairs of jeans every day as the background to a fabulous top," she said. "Bed jackets are a staple of my wardrobe because they are a gorgeous way to give jeans and a white T-shirt a completely different look." easy peasy and looking gorgeous. the styles and cuts lend themselves to layering, which allows limitless combos within your own wardrobe. LOVE it.

prices are set to be reasonable - her philosophy being that "Fashion should be accessible". AND my favorite quote of all, because it hits the nail of e-stylist philosophy square on the head -- the pieces she has designed "...can be dressed up, made casual, but most importantly, they
provide the wearer a means of self-expression and fun." that, as they say, is style in a nutshell.

adorable? check. amazing style? check. great design sense? check. baby on board? check. (baby number 2, no less)

with a fun jewelry line doing well all over the place (Madonna wore a piece on the cover of her new album. and we all know i love the stuff), ms. Richie is now onto the next venture - which makes perfect sense now that she is with baby number 2 brewing - a maternity line for Pea in the Pod. as anyone with babies, or friends with babies knows - the store is a goldmine for great clothes for the pregnant lady. and now, even more to love!!

oops, i did it again

i bought a cute thing, got lost in the game, oh baby baby...

oh hello. perhaps you may recall the time i was going on about House of Harlow jewelry. i may have done it more than once, knowing me. but in all seriousness, check the stuff out. even my mom saw some of the bracelets online and said "oh i like that" in her little chirpie British way. fun for all ages.

and perhaps you may recall how i am a bit of a sucker for pretty things... especially in the form of jewelry. well, it's not hard to figure out the end of the story here is it people. i succumbed to it. i bent. i bought the ring. behold the ring in all its rock and roll 1970's i'm with the band glory. sigh. i think this is love.

oh nicole richie...

that previous post got me a bit worked up. so i'm going to have a little Nicole Richie interlude to calm me down and make me feel love again.

ahhhhhhh. ok. this is not a brand new picture, but it sort of sums it all up for me. cute, cute CUTE, super casual but dressed up at the same time. she's just my kind of little lady.

by the by - she is now designing jewelry which happens to be pretty freakin cool in and of itself. the line is called House of Harlow 1960 and yes, as i am a certain way, i have purchased a couple of pieces. and i LOVE them. Singer22 has a great selection, but it's sold at a bunch of online boutiques, and i've seen it at Bloomingdales as well. the gold aztec bangle with leather has entered the almost daily rotation and the sunburst necklace is great for either a night out of blingin up a white t-shirt. there are a few other pieces in there (in particular, the tigers eye ring and the leather cuff...) that may well find their ways into my heart and my home.... anything's poss.

nieves lavi - me lovee

ye shall learn, as we go along the stylie path together, that i am obsessed with Nicole Richie. not the too skinny hot mess girl she was, but the woman she is now. cute, cute mommy with a bangin' body and a fantastic bohemiam, luxe-hippie style. i love her.

a couple of years ago, i was cruisin the mags, as is my wont. and i saw her wearing an oh-so-adorable mini dress. i did my hunt and it turned out the dress was from Nieves Lavi. so i went on hunt part deux. found myself at Saks, before taking my visiting niece to American Girl (or as i now know, "little girls addicted to dolls like they were crack") for a special birthday tea and shopping spree. anyhoo - i grabbed some Nieves Lavi pieces and hit the dressing room with my little lady in tow. tried on the first dress - and she said out loud "wow - that is so flattering". two things here - one: how cute is that, and i love her two: if a 10 year old says that - it's real. they don't know enough to say "no that doesn't make you look fat". dress was purchased and my love affair began. they do sell on their website, and also have a list of other retailers and websites who sell them.

most of their pieces are silk - and so ridiculously light and comfortable, and yes, flattering that you could live in them. they do also do cotton pieces. i hunt and i scour, because the-e-stylist likes things on sale. i'm just that way...and i have collected a few dresses and tops that i LOVE. they feel like air on your skin and as a special bonus, you get to feel just a little bit Nicole Richie bohemian luxe-hippie for a day. it's a win-win sitcho my friends.
