the power of shoe

what do you do when you've stood and walked for hours, and your 5 inch heels are causing you such distress that you consider just lying on the sidewalk and weeping?  well, first you stop and breathe, remind yourself that this is FNO, that you are on West Broadway, and it is so crowded with people that you would both look like a moron and get trampled to death.  next, you tell yourself what a fool you are for not putting a pair of flip flops in your tote bag before leaving home. finally, you go directly into Musette and buy what is quite possibly the cutest pair of flats ever.  once they are comfortably placed on your feet (causing a near fainting rush of relief) you strike up a lovely convo with the owner, who tells you that stock will be rotated on a very regular basis to keep things fresh.  the store is on West Broadway, between Prince and Spring,
View Larger Mapand the online store will be live on October 1.  before leaving, you briefly eye the platform pump with the same black toe cap and cream body, with an amazing green heel.  you then feel a crippling memory of what you felt like 10 minutes prior and snap back into the moment to relish the joy of the flat ballet slipper...oh what a shoe can do.

meanwhile....

back in the upper half of the city on FNO...  crowds stills millin' and stylin' - shopping and partying like it's going out of style.  lines to get into celeb-attending venues were, in a word, a CLUSTER-SHAG.  but the events were fun and silly and perfect.  karaoke at Bergdorfs with Nicole Richie?  you can't go too wrong.   at the end of the evening my final call is that FNO was well worth the mayhem, and can also stand for Fabulously Nuts Ordeal.  and so we wait for 2011...

D&G -- FNO --- OMG

the word "frenzy" hardly begins to describe the electric energy in the city on Friday night.  FNO this year was BEYOND insane.  it was a city-wide block party.  happy people, dolled up in style (of every variety imaginable - loves it) were milling around the streets and packing into the shops.  SO.  MUCH.  FUN.
Soho was mad.  like a wonderfully mad hatter.  i have literally never seen that many people on West Broadway at any one given time - and a large portion of them ended up in D&G - when we walked in it was packed - and as we left there was an absolute mob at the door waiting to get in.  DJ Tyson Toussant (who, along with Pharrell Williams and Tim Coombs, owns Bionic Yam, a textile company making fabric from recycled plastic bottles - LOVE that!) was spinning, the crowd was shopping, dancing and just generally being fabulous.  among the fab guests were Angela Simmons, Lauren London, Vanessa Simmons. Naomi Campbell's FNO tee was selling, along with the fantastic runway collection.  (kind of drooling over this burgundy dress!!!) this is what fashion should always make you feel like - i am STILL buzzing from it all!

fountains and fashions and chairs, oh my!

FNO is very nearly upon us.  parties and shopping and limited edition treats galore.  i feel like my feet already ache from the innappropriate but super hot shoes i'm bound to wear.  celebrities and style lovers alike will be all over the place and loving it.  to kick it all off this year - and as a teaser for Fashion Week,  Fashion's Night Out the Show was held outside Lincoln Center last night.  the fashion gods smiled down upon the city and the weather was perfect.

the set up was kind of amazing looking and very non-exclusive.  not much "front row" BS, as almost every spot had a great view.  the runway formed concentric circles around the fountain in the Plaza, lined by rows of chairs only two rows deep.  the models entered from a double decker FNO bus (fun little theatric) and made their way up stairs and onto the plaza, wearing a Fashion's Night Out T-shirt paired with a designer skirt and shoes.   super cute.  there were then fast paced segments, showcasing fall 2010's trends - like "Fifties Flair", Vogue-styled "Tartan Twist," "Rock Chic," and "Jazz-Age Cool" looks.   the show closed out with a performance by Pharrell Williams, with models dancing around him and clambering back up and out on the FNO bus.

all a flurry of fashion-y fun to get people pumped to go out and play  (and SHOP!) on FNO!(for a full list of locations and events - check out their website)

FNO 2010

love fashion?  obvi, you're reading this...  love shopping?  yep...  love a good party with a poss of seeing a celeb or two or four?  sure why not!!  well then dolls - it's time for Fashion's Night Out 2010.  last year was a blitzkrieg indeed - and this year looks about 48.3 million times better, so start your engines.  September 10 is the date for NYC, other locations are listed on the website.  the site is actually rather genius - it lets you map out your itinerary so that you can conquer all you need to do in strategic fashion.  (nothing makes me happier that strategic shopping.  i'm being dead serious.  i map out my shopping on my travels.)   one of the more hilarious events this year is the Olsen twins judging karaoke at Barneys.  even just typing that makes me giggle.  and makes me know i want to be there.  what's not to love about an Olsen and Barneys????????  see you there!!
