sometimes things ARE black and white...

...as they are in this gorgeous book. fashion photography runs the gamut. it can be flat out boring, it can be so bad that it's comical, and it can be art. this falls into the latter category. Lillian Bassman worked as a fashion photog in the '50s and '60s, and developed her own style focused on the expressiveness of hands (one of my favorite body parts - and truly one of the most "talkative"). she's still kickin today, and has re-worked some of her classic images in this book, "Women". the pictures are stunning, and who doesn't love to look at pretty things?!

there's also an exhibit of her work at the Staley-Wise gallery here in ny from Oct. 23 through Nov. 28.
